Ceretto Likely To Run Unopposed

May 20, 2014

Sources in the Niagara County Democratic Party said that it is likely that NYS Assemblyman John Ceretto will not face an opponent this year. There appears to be no Democrat officially sponsored, or being courted by the Niagara County Democratic party.

Although it is not too late for a candidate to emerge, so far no one has announced any intention of running against Ceretto for the $ per year job with a two year term.

Ceretto, a Republican, has won election twice in a district that changed twice and has a significant Democratic plurality. His district includes Lewiston, Grand Island, Niagara Falls and rural Republican areas of Niagara County.

In the present district, Ceretto won a hard fought campaign two years ago when he narrowly defeated Niagara Falls attorney Robert Restaino. In his initial run he defeated Niagara Falls businessman John Accardo who had defeated 10-year incumbent Francine DelMonte in the Democratic primary.
