People in are hoping to save more money on their groceries, as a new Save-A-Lot supermarket opens in North Tonawanda. The store is located on Nash Road and offered a free bag of groceries to the first 100 shoppers. People of all ages stood in long lines last week waiting for the store to open its doors to customers.

The new store is in the Value Plaza, where the old ALDI’s used to be located. For many people the store is a welcome addition to the neighborhood. “I was there for the opening and did get a free bag of groceries. In it was a bag of ruffled potato chips, a can of tuna, a box of mac and cheese, a jar of spaghetti sauce. It is a great store with great prices,” said Susan Leanza from North Tonawanda.

The grocery chain recently hired 25 new people for the store, many of whom live in the area. Owners say the new store will give more people in North Tonawanda better grocery shopping options. “It’s going to give them a chance to try all of our private-label items and get a feel for what we sell,” said Jessica Newman, Co-Owner.

The store will be open Monday through Sunday from 8am to 9pm.
