The death of George Floyd in Minneapolis has sparked outrage across the United States. Protests have taken place in major cities across the country including New York City, Brooklyn, Philadelphia, Louisville, Minneapolis, Los Angeles, Oakland, Seattle, Washington D.C., and etc.

There have also been events held closer to home in Buffalo, Rochester, Niagara Falls, and earlier this month in Lockport.

Tonight, residents of Lockport are once again coming together on the anniversary of Troy Hodge’s death.

The vigil will start at the Hodge residence, 217 Park Ave., at 6 p.m. then head to city hall.

Organizers of the event made it clear in a Facebook event page on Facebook that this event is meant to be peaceful.

“For everyone that is attending this it will be a beautiful peaceful celebration of Troys life,” said Nicole Calamita, a long-time girlfriend of Hodge. “I will not put violence next to his name because Troy was not like that for anyone that knew him. I love you all and I thank you for coming together to celebrate his life.”

She also stressed that Hodge’s death would not be forgotten.”

“This day is already a nightmare for us the family,” said Calamita. “We as a community need to stand together! Everyone at this point should know Troys death was ruled a homicide. I will NOT stop until justice is served and they make them all accountable for taking him away from us.”
