George Washington's 282nd Birthday at Mount Vernon Only ; Rest of the Nation Ignores his Purpose

While the U.S. Army laid a wreath at the Tomb of George Washington at George Washington's Mount Vernon Estates & Garden, Mount Vernon, Va.,, the nation as a whole has laid a wreath at the freedom principles he espoused.

The wreath-laying ceremony, patriotic music and military firing demonstration in Mount Vernon were open to the public.

The Old Guard, the Army's official ceremonial unit and escort to the president and the nation's oldest active infantry regiment, performed the ceremonies.

The nation as a whole performed the ceremonies of forgetting Washington's words on freedom:
