They tune the ukulele to the strain of “my dog has fleas.”
But in Lewiston, New York, the lyrics are losing much of their poignancy.
Using an American-made, K9000 dog wash machine, “Chase’s Dog Wash,” has opened with the slogan “Cleaning Lewiston 1 dog at a Time.”
It is region’s first self-service dog washing business and is located at at the corner of Seneca, at 280 Portage Road , right behind the Portage House Motel.
The self-service dog wash is named after “Chase,” a black Labrador Retriever, owned by Susanne Torcasio and her partner David Moyer. Chase has enjoyed many baths in the K9000 dog wash machine.
Mr. Moyer and Ms. Torcasio who also operate the Portage House Motel.
For $10, paid into the K9000 machine, dogs are washed, de-flea’d/anti-iched, rinsed and dried in ten minutes. No appointment is needed.

At Chase’s, dogs are led by their owners into to the self-contained, raised bathtub where tepid water flows and flea shampoo is applied. The owners stay with their dogs at all times. After a thorough rinse, dogs have their hair blow dried by the K9000 machine, or the dog owner can use a hand held blow dryer or towels which are provided at no extra charge.
“I’ve never seen any dog ever have a problem with this machine,” said Miss Torcasio.
The heated, indoor facility provides complimentary dog biscuits, a tasty treat for dogs and humans alike.
For dogs that do not normally enjoy bathing, there are chains available to safely secure the animal from jumping out of the tub.
“Dog owners treat their dogs like part of the family, and we wanted to make sure they have a place to get their dogs clean and have fun at the same time” said Mr. Moyer.
For owners of small dogs – two can bathe in the large tub for the same price.
Please no human bathers.
Chase’s is open from dawn until dusk seven days a week.
While this is the area’s first K9000 Dog Wash, there are 62 locations in North America.
Chase’s makes dog bathing simple and easy.
And remember just as you would not fail to take a bath at least once, or even twice a month, your dog desires the same high standards of proper hygiene, comfort and social etiquette.
And the best part: no clean up necessary.
