MURDER, MAYHEM AND MISOGYNY CHARACTERIZE CAREER OF FALLS' SCREEN LEGEND FRANCHOT TONE

If you had to pick one old-time Hollywood movie star as the personification of Niagara Falls, you'd have a hard time coming up with a better candidate than the city's own native son, Franchot Tone.

Scion of a wealthy family and an Academy Award also-ran, Tone was overshadowed by one wife and cuckolded by another. Tales of alcoholism, Communism, infidelity and spousal abuse persist. And his biographies contain the accounts of no fewer than three murders, including one of the most gruesome and infamous of the 20th century.
