The rain couldn’t dampen the spirits of people at the annual summer blast off party at the Payne Park Memorial Pool in North Tonawanda.

“I think it is great for the city and it is also great for the kids,” said Michelle Menkena, North Tonawanda resident.

“The kids just love it. They love coming here during the summer and being here at the park. There is so many great things for them to do.”

The event is hosted by the North Tonawanda Department of Youth, Recreation and Parks.

Inside the pool kids of all ages were splashing around in the pool, while others were enjoying everything from miniature golf to a delicious meal.

“We have a lot of activities and it basically signifies the opening of all of our summer activities,” said Alex Domaradzki, event organizer.

“Today we partnered up with the Community Hub, have a bunch of outreach organizations here. They have information for parents and kids about programs. We also have a lot of activities such as the bounce house, game stations, prize painting and many more things for the community to come and enjoy.”

They are activities that organizer and city leaders hope will help to keep the kids busy this summer, off the street and out of trouble.

“This event is very much specialized for families and for families to come out here and teaming up with the Parks Department is outstanding,” noted North Tonawanda Alder- man-at-Large Bob Pecoraro. “We will continue to work together to help residents understand all the services they have to offer.”

The Parks Department will have a number of activities throughout the summer.
