Hike the Niagara River Gorge with Councilman Chris Voccio.

Actually, there will be two hikes.

The group will meet at the northwest corner of the Whirlpool State Park parking lot at 2pm and hike north to Devil’s Hole State Park, about 1.5 miles away.

You will see breathtaking views of the gorge. This leg of the hike is the easier portion, with a couple of inclines but no difficult obstacles. If you decide to participate please be sure you are in good enough physical condition to walk 3 miles, some of it uphill.

Less adventurous people can walk with the group and then walk back to Whirlpool State Park. This walk, to Devils Hole and back to Whirlpool, will be about an hour in total.

More adventurous hikers can join Councilman Voccio in descending the Devil’s Hole stairs into the Gorge.

The group will then walk along the river to the Whirlpool steps and then climb the steps and head back to the parking lot.

This leg of the hike is arduous and only for experienced and healthy hikers. You should expect to walk on unstable and uneven surfaces as well as climbing lots of stairs. There is risk throughout this walk. You should be in top condition for this hike, and have footwear with a good grip.

Please bring some water, sun protection and a camera. The full hike will be about two hours.

If it rains on this day, or if there are heavy rains the day prior, please look out for updated on whether the event is cancelled.

The event is scheduled to take place on June 3rd from 2-4pm.

More information can be found on Councilman Voccio’s Facebook page and a link to the event on Facebook can be found below.
