It is necessary to take issue with an article in last week's Reporter, "Grandinetti is a Barrel of Conflicts," in which it is stated that the organization Planned Parenthood places "heavy emphasis on condoms, birth control and abortion instead of abstention."
Actually, Planned Parenthood health professionals, educators and counselors always and unfailingly stress abstinence to young people as the only sure way to avoid sexually transmitted infections (STI's) and unwanted pregnancy. "Heavy emphasis" on condoms and other reliable methods of birth control is made only because many do have sex, in fact, over half of all teens by the time they finish high school. There is no "heavy emphasis" on abortion care - in fact, abortion comprises a very small percentage of total health care services provided by Planned Parenthood.
In addition, Grandinetti is identified as a "member of Planned Parenthood’s local chapter". Planned Parenthood doesn't have "members" or "chapters". Who wrote this stuff? While the councilwoman has had past affiliations with Planned Parenthood, is it incumbent on her to disclose that every time and place she comments on reproductive health, including Facebook of all places?
C'mon, Reporter, you can do better than that.
