It is with deep regret that we have learned that the 134-year-old Tonawanda News will cease publishing at the end of January.
Publisher Chris Voccio said revenues and advertising could no longer sustain operations. The closing will affect 20 employees.
Chairman and President Frank Parlato said the Niagara Falls Reporter will immediately examine ways the Reporter can help fill the news void that will be created by the newspaper's closing.
Senior Editor Tony Farina once worked as the News Editor of the Tonawanda News in the mid-60s.
"This is very sad news," said Farina. "I remember well my days at the Tonawanda News and feel badly that this venerable institution is going out of existence. It is truly a sad day for the newspaper's loyal followers. I hope that we can help to pick up the slack created by this unfortunate news."
