Lockport GOP to Honor Maziarz

October 07, 2014

It has come to our attention that the City of Lockport Republican Committee will honor the long-serving and soon-to-be-departed State Sen. George Maziarz at its awards dinner on Monday, Oct. 20, at Danny Sheehan's Steak House.

Maziarz announced in July he would not be running for another term as word spread that several of his staffers had been subpoenaed as part of a federal probe into his un-itemized campaign committee spending.

The Lockport GOP will honor George with a Special Tribute at the dinner and will also recognize North Tonawanda Mayor Robert Ortt as its Citizen of the Year.

The departing state senator will share the limelight with the man he hopes will succeed him. Ortt must first defeat Johnny Destino in November before he can claim George's crown.

The Lockport GOP will also honor Niagara County Clerk Wayne Jagow as Public Servant of the Year and will present Lockport Mayor Anne McCaffrey with the Chairman's Leadership Award.
