Memorial to Open 'Wellness Center' This Week

Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center will dedicate its new Niagara Wellness Connection Center located on the hospital's newly renovated sixth floor, on Thursday(Jan. 30).

The Center will combine a primary doctor's facility, screening for drug or alcohol addiction, health and wellness education, fitness activities, community support services, and financial and health insurance counseling.

Funding for renovation included a $1.98 million HEAL 21 grant from the New York State Department of Health, and $795,000 to support the center's operation for three years.

The Center will include a classroom for health and wellness education, a primary care office, a library and kiosks staffed by social service agencies.

Clients and patients will get help obtaining primary care, health insurance, wellness activities and transportation services.

Univera Healthcare pledged $70,000 to fund classes such as nutrition, medication management, chronic disease management and smoking cessation.

"We believe this new center will revolutionize the way outpatient behavioral health care is delivered in our region," hospital spokesman Pat Bradley said.
