Comic Convention Coming in June

Lee Meriwether (above) was Miss America in 1955 and Catwoman in 1966. She will appear at Comic Con at the Niagara Falls, Ontario convention center. Niagara Falls, New York does not have a convention center. It was given to the Senecas for one dollar, so our city cannot have any conventions.

"It's A Comic Book World," was the hit 70's song, written by WNY singer-songwriter Gerry Ralston. And, in Niagara Falls, Ont., that's exactly what is about to happen: a comic book world -- in June, at the Scotiabank Convention Center when the Niagara Falls Comic Convention takes place.
It will feature a unique assortment of famous comic book artists like Marc Silvestri, Leonard Kirk, Mark Wolf and George Perez and also some of the famous actors who brought the characters out of the comic books and onto the screen.

The "Niagara Falls Comic Con" will be held June 8 and 9 and feature more than 50,000 square feet of comic book vendors, artists, celebrities, exhibitors, movie screenings, memorabilia and more. It will, as its sponsors say, "feed your need for all things comic and pop culture related."

Topping the list of stars is Lou Ferrigno, who, in 1977 was cast opposite Bill Bixby as the Hulk in The Incredible Hulk TV series and TV movies.
Other celebrities who are scheduled to appear are Sam J. Jones, who portrayed Flash Gordon in the 1980 film of the same name; David Prowse, who was the man inside the Darth Vader costume in the original Star Wars trilogy; Jeremy Bulloch, who played the role of Boba Fett in The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi; Tim Russ, who played Lieutenant Commander Tuvok on Star Trek: Voyager; Mick Foley, who wrestled under the name Cactus Jack and Mankind for the WWE; Ted DiBiase, known as the WWE villain, The Million Dollar Man; and Ian Ziering, who played Steve Sanders from the Beverly Hills 90210 TV show.

Also included are Kane Hodder, known for his role as Jason Voorhees of the Friday the 13th films parts 7-10; Jason David Frank, known for his role as Tommy Oliver in the TV show Power Rangers; and Pat Mastroianni, who played "Joey Jeremiah" in the TV show, Degrassi High; Pop culture icons such as Larry Thomas, who played the "The Soup Nazi" on Season 7 of Seinfeld, and Lee Meriwether, who played in the 1966 film version of Batman as Catwoman, are also slated to appear. The 77- year old actress was also a former Miss America.

These and others will appear and meet the comic book crowds at this convention.

Advance tickets can be purchased for $20 for Saturday or $20 for Sunday. A weekend combo for Saturday/Sunday is $30. Children 10 and under are free.
