Guys and Dolls to Open at Shaw Festival

Guys and Dolls is being staged at the Shaw Festival this year.

Sean Wright will play Nathan Detroit in the Shaw Festival Production of Guys and Dolls.

Stubby Kaye (above) and Sam Leveme (below) starred in the original Broadway production.

A new production of the musical Guys and Dolls will open May 11 at the Shaw’s Festival Theatre at Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario.

The show is directed by Tadeusz Bradecki and features 'The Shaw’s' acting ensemble.

Guys and Dolls originally premiered on Broadway in 1950, ran for 1,200 performances and won five Tony Awards including Best Musical and was based on the short stories of humorist Damon Runyon. A movie adaptation was released in 1955 and starred Marlon Brando, Jean Simmons and Frank Sinatra.

The music and lyrics are by Frank Loesser.

The Shaw Festival’s 2013 season began April 3, runs until Oct. 27.  It features 10 productions presented on the Festival’s four Niagara-on-the-Lake stages.
