A Newshound, Through and Through

By Darryl McPherson

On Tuesday, September 18, the Niagara Falls Reporter’s own Tony Farina ventured back to his old stomping grounds, the television airwaves. Tony is starting to become a regular fixture on WGRZ Channel 2’s political talk show “2 Sides”, airing weekdays at 11:30 AM. Hosted by Kristy Mazurek and Christopher Grant, the show brings in local community leaders and political figures to discuss the relevant stories of the day.

Last week, Tony spoke about the Niagara Falls Reporter cover story involving the prospect of the Buffalo Bills moving to Niagara Falls. Tony “connected the dots” and established the connection between the stalled stadium lease negotiations between the County and the State, the availability of real estate in Niagara Falls and the possible composition of a new ownership group when the Ralph Wilson estate sells the team.

On Thursday, September 21, Tony found himself on television again, this time on WBBZ’s Political Buzz, hosted by Mylous Hairston. Tony appeared in a panel discussion with former Erie County Democratic Party Chairman Steve Pigeon and Ellicott Development CEO (and former Republican gubernatorial candidate) Carl Paladino. The group discussed presidential politics and the Buffalo Bills stadium lease.

And again on Tuesday, September 26, Tony was on “2 Sides” with Mazurek and former Erie County Executive Joel Giambra, discussing the City of Niagara Falls’ expectation of “casino cash”, revenue due to the City from the compact between the State of New York and the Seneca Nation of Indians. The prospect of a loan from the State to cover the resulting failure of the Senecas to make payment to the City due to a dispute between the State and the Seneca Nation over the alleged breach of the compact was the subject.
