Board Members, Staff Help Niagara SPCA Raise Money

Members of the Niagara County SPCA Board of Directors along with staff and volunteers were out in force on Sunday afternoon, September 9, at Niagara Falls Blvd. and Military Rd. collecting $1,700 from passers-by to support the shelter’s no-kill efforts.

The fundraising was led by veterinarian Susan Persico, a board member, and her husband, Ed Latson, who practice at the Central Park Animal Hospital in Buffalo. They have already made considerable efforts on behalf of the SPCA, including spaying and neutering the Somerset cats for free.

It would be nice to see other local veterinarians step up and help the shelter follow-through on its no-kill commitment and the Niagara Falls Reporter will publish the names of veterinarians who volunteer their services to help this shelter advance its no-kill agenda.

The Niagara County SPCA is in need of community support to continue its efforts to establish a no-kill shelter following disclosures of animal abuse and mismanagement that rocked the facility late last year.

A fundraiser at the shelter last month drew a strong show of support and a second event is planned in October.
