Letters to the editor: Catt. County SPCA

Dear Editor; Thank you for your article. I am hoping that what goes on in that torture chamber can finally be brought to the attention of someone who can do something about it.

Just read the story on Catt. County SPCA. This has been going on for years. There are dogs in cages that have been there since 2005! They hide dogs that are really in bad health at an employee’s house if they think someone’s coming to investigate.

They don’t pay their bills so vets won't work with them. They get donations and grant money but never use it for that. Check out when grant money comes and see who got a new vehicle. Ask employees or past employees how paychecks work!-- Mary Layman

I was an employee at the CCSPCA in 2007. When I was first hired it depressed me that some animals were there for quite some time. I understood the place is a no kill shelter but there was a pit bull covered in scars and large tumors who was there nearly a month before she got checked out. The tumors would burst and she would bleed from eyes, ears, nose, mouth. After a couple days she was unable to keep food down and had seizures.

Three employees, including myself, had her euthanized secretly. Another dog, Ollie, a chow mix, was laying in his own feces and urine after losing mobility. When we informed management we were told as long as he eats and drinks that’s all that matters. The employees were picking him up and moving him so he was not laying in his own urine and feces. We were required to give him fluids. We went behind management’s back to have him euthanized and informed management he passed on his own so we would not lose our jobs.

From a pig drowning in its own feces up to its neck, and when we opened the door to the pen, the feces flowed out like a waterfall to our knees, and then the dead pig sitting in the barn for a month covered in plastic, with rats eating off it, to animals having clogged drains and standing in water that had urine and feces mixed in, to cats that we picked up only to get dropped off in another county because we had no space, to non licensed vets working in the medical unit, to forged signatures on paychecks and rabies shots given to animals by a non licensed employee, I lost sleep and cried over conditions I would NEVER put a single living thing in.

"The Truth is Always Fair'? That's your slogan on your webpage.

There are two sides to every story, and you're only "reporting" one side.

Writing "stories" as FACT without getting FACTS and only presenting one side is a case for libel. I'm sure you're aware of this. If you'd like to contact me, I will be happy to answer any questions you may have, as well as direct you to the reporters from Channel 4/Buffalo that interviewed myself, and others at the CCSPCA Shelter.
