Gates murder still a mystery

Despite the latest discovery on Sunday of body parts of murdered Niagara Falls woman Loretta Gates, police detectives say they are still trying to unravel the mystery of how and where she was killed.

A passerby saw a bag floating in a lake on Duck Island in Hyde Park on Sunday and police discovered what is reported to be the head and an arm of the mother of three whose torso was found floating in the Lower Niagara River last month. She had last been seen on Aug. (August) 25 when she went to a convenience store across the street from her home.

Sunday’s grisly discovery would appear to indicate the woman was murdered in the city, but police said on Monday there was nothing new to report on the investigation into her death.
