What is a whistle blower?

This lovely man’s endeavors were thwarted by a whistleblower

A whistleblower is a person who tells the public, law enforcement or anyone in authority about dishonest or illegal activities occurring in government or a private company.

Whistleblowers frequently face reprisal, sometimes at the hands of the organization they have accused.

Although whistleblowers are protected under US law from employer retaliation, there have been many cases where punishment for whistleblowing has occurred, such as termination, suspension and demotion.

A wide variety of federal and state laws protect employees who call attention to violations, help with enforcement proceedings, or refuse to obey unlawful directions.

Whistleblower statutes enacted by Congress are to be enforced by the Secretary of Labor and delegated to OSHA's Office of the Whistleblower Protection Program.
