PIGEON RESPONDS

Steve Pigeon and Maziarz
Steve Pigeon, architect of the Republican takeover of the New York State Senate, with George Maziarz shortly after their successful 2009 coup.

Steve Pigeon, former Democratic Chairman of Erie County, frequently arises as the nexus of various political campaigns he is involved in. The Republican primary race between State Senator George Maziarz and Johnny Destino may be no exception.

Mr. Pigeon, who has worked with Mr. Maziarz and now on behalf of Mr. Destino’s campaign, has been recently criticized, along with Mr. Destino for thier association.

The Reporter contacted the controversial political strategist and fundraiser. Mr. Pigeon said:
“George Maziarz and I worked together on any number of races for more than ten years. It is a matter of public record that we worked together on the coup that put Republicans in Albany in power in the State Senate. I was one of his closest allies.

“I find it hypocritical when he says it’s a bad thing that Steve Pigeon works with a candidate. After all he found it in his interest to work with me for years.

“If my support for Johnny Destino is reason not to vote for Destino than how much more is it a reason not to vote for George who accepted my support for a decade.

“Primaries are good for the people. George should embrace that. And get to work. This race is about issues and about two men - George Maziarz and Johnny Destino. And more importantly, it’s about the people.”
