DONUT EATING CONTESTANT IS POLICE DETECTIVE

Tom EwingOn Saturday, June 16, the day after the Wallenda walk, the Niagara Falls Police Department is sponsoring a fundraiser at LaSalle Waterfront Park, 6611 Buffalo Avenue.

Among the many events planned is a donut eating contest. The Reporter has learned the NFPD will field Detective Tom Ewing as their chief contestant. He will take on all comers.

According to reliable sources, Detective Ewing has been seen consuming more than one dozen donuts at a sitting in non-competitive settings.

“Don’t let the picture fool you,” said Officer John Petrishin, referring to the slender appearance of Detective Ewing in a photograph. “He is one of the Niagara Falls’ finest (donut eaters).”

The Police Foundation event is held to raise money and allow the community to “meet with officers in a setting which is not an emergency situation, or one in which they would be negatively impacted,” Officer Petrishin said.

In addition to the donut eating contest, there will be live music, a K-9 demonstration, a tug or war contest between the Fire and Police departments, a dunk tank, inflatable jump hose for children, the demonstration of the mounted Sheriff’s horse patrol, a bomb squad display and other events.

Admission is free. Food and beverages may be purchased, along with a basket auction, to raise money to support the Niagara Falls Police Law Enforcement Foundation.

According to published reports, policemen are noted for donut consumption.
