MY PERSONAL BATTLE WITH CANCER.. A STORY OF HOPE. PART VI

New Technology, New Hope For All Stages and Types of Cancer”

By Glenn Gramigna

”“I LOOK AT THE TECHNOLOGY I HAVE AND I LOOK AT THE PATIENT'S SITUATION
AND I THINK TO MYSELF: 'I CAN USE WHAT I HAVE TO HELP THIS PERSON”

We are so used to hearing so many bogus, foolish, or totally irrelevant appeals aimed at us through TV commercials that when one encounters an ad whose contents really have the potential to transform our lives, at first we tend to doubt it or disregard it.

However, within a second or two of hearing the above CCS Oncology (www.CCSONCOLOGY.com) message during a local news program, it occurred to me that this could be the answer I had been looking for.

After my sudden attack of severe prostate pain, the doctors at Roswell, where I was being treated, put me on a regimen of ten carelessly administered radiation treatments. At first they made me feel a little better. Later they made me very sick and weak. I later found out that they were intended to help me only for a very short time, after which I would be told something like, “Well, this is all we could do. Sorry. You've had it.” Or words to that effect.

It was during the time when I was at my lowest ebb physically, when I was so weak from the “treatment” I had received at Roswell that I could hardly move, that I saw the CCS commercial. I made up my mind to find out all I could about CCS after my good friend, Dr. X at the “cancer center” had told me that CCS' TrueBeam STx was only used to treat brain cancer and other lies, not to mention ridiculing me in front of a physician's assistant for even considering the idea.

“Look, Glenn if you want to waste your time, that's fine with me,” he had barked, chuckling openly as if I had told him a really good joke. “I have no problem with you wasting your time!”

But, as soon as I had my first meeting with Dr. W. Sam Yi, the Korean born, board certified radiologist, (a graduate of Columbia University, Columbia University Medical School and the University of Rochester Medical School), who would become my doctor, I knew I was at the right place.

Dr. Yi explained to me that, yes, he could offer a superior radiation technology in TrueBeamSTx but also, perhaps more importantly, he could offer a different philosophy as well.

“I'm not afraid to think outside of the box,” he explained. “I look at the technology I have available to me and I look at a patient's situation and I think to myself, 'I can use what I have to really help this person'...That's the only thing that's important to me.”

Unlike other claims I had heard doctors make in recent years, this one turned out to be as dependable and predictable as the early spring rains in Buffalo. Since I had more than one hot spot at the time, I suggested to Dr.Yi that we simply tackle one problem area at a time, a common sense concept that had been instantly shot down as “ridiculous” at Roswell. Dr. Yi told me that seemed about right to him and that's exactly what we've been doing for the past ten months with excellent results.

I can't say that the high tech radiation treatments I have received at CCS have been a walk in the park every single minute. I can say that they have always been constructive and have led me toward a more cancer free life every single time I showed up for service.

Last Saturday, I felt so good, I decided to devote the whole day to cleaning my apartment, an activity I wasn't known for “getting around to” on a regular basis even before cancer became a part of my life.
“Wasting (my) time” by exploring new technologies in my fight against cancer?...Maybe it's Dr. Moehler who is wasting HIS time by deluding himself into thinking he is practicing medicine!
