LETTERS TO THE EDITOR

I just read your articles on Maid of the Mist and wanted to let you know it was the most informative and spectacular journalism I have ever read. It is easy to get the wrong impression here (and I certainly did) until I read your article!!! Lets just hope the New Yorkers can force a contract termination for cause when Glynn doesn't have the boat yards!!! Thanks for writing and thanks for exposing this!!!

I almost fell out of my wheelchair (laughing) yesterday after hearing on the evening news last night that the city has a plan, A PLAN!! So let me get this straight----the city is going to "help" students with college loans by offering them money to live here. And what pray tell will the city do when these kids graduate & move on? Is Mark Rivers still in town? Did the Wizard of Oz relocate here? Is Harold Hill blowing his trombone in the city council meetings? You'd think that after the "Holiday market" disaster, the wasted money on the Hard Rock Cafe concerts, etc, the mayor would say HELL NO to another lame brained idea that will do absolutely nothing for the city. I don't know who this new "community development director" is, but you'd think that DEVELOPMENT would mean bringing in NEW COMPANIES to create JOBS, not putting money into SLUMLORD’S  pockets. Let's face it, this city has gone past critical condition to the "last rights" stage. This is definitely not a "win-win" situation for the city, or for the students. The only ones who will benefit will be landlords. It's one of the most STUPID ideas that's come out of city hall since, well since the Holiday Market, a foolish waste of OUR tax dollars.

I wish that we had a paper such as yours to give some of our politicians the messages you send out. Very interesting reading, Nothing like in our city.

In all my years I have never seen an article that told the gospel truth like your article ‘New York overrun by welfare seekers.’ I started working on my mother's farm back in 1948 at age five. Later, I was forced to work more than one job to make ends meet.

My wife and I are both Roman Catholics and were at one time registered Democrats. We left the Democratic party for many reasons, but the main reason is the church believes in helping the poor, and in the case of Niagara County 92% of the people are lazy and only care about themselves.

I hope that you publish more articles like this one. You definitely have a lot of intestinal fortitude.
