Anderson complains about underwear

Hanes factory in Hue, Vietnam (above). The Hanes brands underwear company has closed 30 plants in North and South America, putting thousands out of work, while relocating its factories to Asian countries.

Niagara Falls Council Member Robert Anderson called to complain last week.

But before we give the floor to Anderson, let it be known he served twenty-two years in the U.S. Air Force before retiring with the rank of Master Sergeant. He also, thanks to his mother who taught him, learned how to iron and believes that there is currently no one in the entire State of New York who can perform the task of ironing in a fashion superior to himself, and that he had just completed the task of ironing his underwear when he called and had an unpleasant discovery.

“You won’t be able to find anybody in New York State– male or female,” Anderson said of his ironing skill. “I have no break in my wrist when I iron, no break at all. None. And I was ironing my Hanes (underwear) and when I looked inside, I saw that it says, ‘Made in Vietnam.’ Unbelievable. And they want to know why we are going down the tubes. I think of my brothers. Their bodies are still buried in the ruins of Vietnam and we can’t make underwear in America?”

“’Made in Vietnam!’ We have gone to the bottom of the pits. It’s a different time than we were brought up in.”
