Did Silver, Skelos Cook Up Tuition Payment Plan?

Will you pay our tuition too?

Silver (L), Skelos (R) “Sure we can work together -- in fooling the people.”

You have to wonder if Democratic Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver and Republican Senate Majority Leader Dean Skelos got together on the bill to fund illegal aliens’ college education.

Here’s how we imagine the bill got started:

Silver: Dino, let’s do a win - win, now that it is election time. In my own and most other New York Democrats’ districts, supporting this bill will get us the minority and the bedwetting liberal vote. So here’s the plan: we Democrats in liberal districts, we all come out in favor of paying illegal immigrants college tuition - on the grounds that not to do it means they stay forever ignorant- and we pick up the Spanish vote big time!

Skelos: Where do the Republicans come in?

Silver: In all of your districts, you gain votes by coming out against it. Don’t worry; the bill will never pass anyway. It is not about passing the bill.

Skelos: Nice idea. We look good sending out press releases opposing it in the most incendiary language during election time. And you Democrats  look good supporting it.

Silver: Yeah, and we condemn you Republicans in the safety of our own Democratic districts, calling you heartless and brutal.
Skelos: We gerrymandered the districts so much that there are few close races anyway.

Silver: Now you get it, son.

Skelos: Sure, it’s just a ploy to help incumbents.

Silver: Now that’s what I call bipartisan spirit.
