Obama supports energy exploration in pro-fracking battleground states like Ohio

Supporters of fracking are now using the image of President Barrack Obama in advertisements supporting fracking. Obama said Americans “should welcome” the shale drilling boom that lead to increased domestic oil and gas production, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

Obama said the natural gas industry could create 600,000 jobs within the next eight years.

The Obama Administration eased up on fracking regulations that would have slowed energy exploration in election battleground states like all-important Ohio. By 2014, oil and gas drilling could add 65,000 new jobs and $5 billion to Ohio’s economy.

In Cincinnati, Obama said, “There are a lot of folks right now who are engaging in hydraulic fracturing who are doing it safely”
Dave Simons, former chairman of the Sierra Club conservation group's Ohio panel on fracking said. "There is big money in this, and [people] are willing to take a chance on this."

Despite his politically expedient position on fracking, will the environmental movement remain silent to help Obama win the all-important state of Ohio?  We’ll know come November.
